We Believe Survivors
We are in the process of incorporating as a non-profit so we can sustain the important work we have been able to do so far. We will be incorporating under the name Dandelion Initiative Inc. We have decided to use this name moving forward.

The Dandelion Initiative, formerly known as the Sexual Assault Action Coalition, is a non-profit supporting community-led action to end sexual violence, by survivors for survivors. The dandelion is symbolic of the resiliency of survivors of sexual assault and violence. It represents strength and an ability to grow and flourish in the worst of conditions.

We are rooted in feminist, intersectional, anti-oppressive frameworks.

We will advocate alongside survivors, creating a strong and united voice against rape culture and complacency.

We will create educational opportunities through publications and training, an ongoing collaborative opportunity with community partners and members.

We will create projects that shift the landscape of society and create a path for a world without sexual assault.

Our intention as an organization is part advocacy and education but we will also run project-based initiatives which partner with cross sector supporters and promote internationality, community unity, and survivor informed initiatives.

We fundamentally believe every survivor of sexual assault and sexual violence has a right to a future that is not dictated by their past.

Currently less than 30% of sexual assault victims will report and less than 0.3% assailants are convicted[i].  Most survivors do not understand the legal process they are subjected to, a legal process that is often demeaning and further propagates victim shaming and the systematic oppression of Women and Trans rights. We will work to empower all survivors through education, community action, holistic healing and mentorship: a multidisciplinary approach to facilitating support for survivors of sexual assault and sexual violence and their loved ones.  Survivors will be given the opportunity to exchange their expertise to create a space of healing, justice and solidarity.

We are grounded in feminist roots; we value justice, equity, inclusion, respect, compassion, dignity and healing.  We work within an intersectional, anti-oppressive, anti-racist, Trans inclusive framework.  We are a survivor and ally run coalition that operates from a peer-based model prioritizing the voices that are disproportionately affected by sexual assault and sexual violence: Racialized  Women, Women, Trans and Non-Binary Folks.

“A dandelion can grow through concrete against all odds and so shall we.”
